Portraits in Pink: Adam Whitehead

The London-based photographer started out assisting some of the industry’s most high-profile photographers during the 1990s and 2000s. He has since made a name for himself as a fashion, beauty and lifestyle photographer and is branching out into car and motorsport photography.

What was the inspiration behind your portrait?

I’m a big fan of historic motorsport. Historic racing cars are in total contrast to the digital, mass produced, synthetic world we now live in. They are beautiful, handmade, organic, analogue, one-of-a-kind pieces of art. My friend Jeremy who I photographed in his 1972 March 712m F2 car is the epitome of the dedicated group of people whose passion it is to restore, maintain and race these wonderful machines..

What sort of photography do you specialise in?

If it interests me, I love to photograph it.

Who or what inspires you creatively?

Timeless design and well-made products.

Generally speaking, what makes a good picture?

I think it’s hard to define a good or bad picture. If a picture brings pleasure and/or informers the viewer, its job is done.

What’s the most memorable picture you’ve taken?

While studying photography at college, I was on a trip to Paris and took a chance-picture of an old man feeding some birds outside the Sacré-Coeur. The photograph won a nationwide competition and gave me the confidence to take my photography further.

Finally, what do you look for in a shirt?

Good fit.
